trans rights are human rights
This isn't about kids or grooming or sex.. It's about dehumanizing an entire group of human beings.
It's about hate.
Brène Brown sums up hatred from her research like this, "The goal of hate is not to hurt, but ultimately eliminate or destroy the target either mentally, socially or physically." For hate to even enter the room, we have to take away someone's humanity. And we're reeeeally good at this hate thing. We're so ready to "other" each other...sound familiar? We've done it again and again throughout history and continue to now. And the biggest irony here, hate is fueled by our need for connection. When we find others that hate the same people we do, we form a counterfeit bond. As long as no one challenges those beliefs, the bond seems strong and legitimate.
2023 marks the fourth consecutive record-breaking year for total number of anti-trans bills considered in the U.S. The sheer volume of bills is part of an escalation against transgender people at both the state and national levels. 490 anti-trans and anti-LGBTQIA bills have been introduced in our country as of today.
I see so much rhetoric online touting parents are" just letting their kids change gender and the next thing you know, our kids will have surgeries they regret," etc. This isn't what's happening, in fact it's not even possible. In the state of Texas, you must be at least 18 + and have undergone extensive psychological evaluation, spanning 2 years in some cases, to receive a letter of recommendation to even start the convo with a surgeon about gender affirming surgeries.
We're grossly undereducated on this as a whole.
As a cisgender woman, I can't speak for the Trans community, but I CAN speak up. If you have questions or want to talk about all of this, message me. Trans folks don't owe you an explanation OR need to defend their right to exist. To anyone.
